gnarls barkley 2

jason would kick freddy's ass

following my last gnarls barkley post.. it seems that there’s a bit of theme.

i have little to say except - i think they look crazy fresh.

jason would kick freddy's ass

if you don’t get the reference, shame on you.

that’ll be all.

panda micro-painting

Fri 24.03.06

micro painting of a pandathere’s this story from yesterday about a panda painted onto a single human hair (see the bbc) which is kinda cool..

Jing Ying Hua, a chinese micro-painter apparently took 10 days using a rabbit hair to paint onto a human hair, this picture of a giant (tiny) panda. looks quite nice.

it got me looking for other ‘micro-artists’ because i find it hard to understand how anyone has the patience to do something like that. which led me to willard wigan - micro sculptor. check the art here. i like the girl with a balloon on an eyelash. very cool.

nice to look at but i don’t fancy having to whip the microscope out everytime i want to look at a piece of art. and what if you picked it up wrong? ruined!

tedious. but cool.

so dark the con of man

for the three people who haven’t read the da vinci code, don’t worry - the film is on it’s way. check the new trailer for it now. looks well weapon. i for one am very much looking forward to the film because i thought the book was uber-enjoyable. and i like films. i don’t subscribe to the whole “Dan Brown presents hard evidence that Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalene and had a daughter named Sarah” which this guy seems to believe but it’s definately a book to get you thinking. i’m quite susceptible to things like that. ‘angels & demons‘ reeled me in all too easily.

blah. i don’t want to get into the whole da vinci code post thing.. it’s been done to death. go watch the trailer and await the film.

the droogs don't work

odd choice of promo shot.. but it works i suppose.
someone on the gnarls barkley myspace page reckons it ‘reminds me of the dudes in Clockwork Orange’.. oh! so that’s what it is! how clever.

blah. regardless of idiot fans (of which, thanks to dangermouse, there’ll be many), this gnarls barkley malarkey is sounding very nice. i wont lie, i’ve slept on cee-lo for years.. i never really got into the whole outkast/dungeon fam/goodie mob thing which i always associated him with so i never really paid any attention but lately, i’ve been looking back and appreciating more. that’ll learn me.
nice

onward and upward.. april sees the release of ‘crazy’ which has been rinsed by uk radio lately. might even chart. the cover art for the single is fresh too.. (it’s on the left). BUT, in true radio-1-does-it-to-death fashion, i’m getting a tad tired of the song. and i’m sure many others are too. so, as a treat, here’s ‘just a thought‘ (mp3, 5mb) from the album promo.. i wasn’t sure which song to share, because they’re all rather funky but this one’s rubbed off on me just that little bit more than the others.

looking forward to the album.

planet earth - mountains

mountains

last nights’ ‘planet earth‘ was as good as the first.. i’m really liking this series so far, and i just read that after the initial 5 episodes, there’s going to be 6 new ones in the autumn. superb.

the snow leopard bits were particularily cool.. and in honour of the cameraman’s 3 year stay in the mountains to get those shots, i thought i’d share my own photo of the elusive creature.
snow leopard

took me all of 3 minutes. in dublin. but still, looks cool :-)

crime in rio?!

carnivAL!

i have no idea what’s going on in the above picture.. but it looks kinda colourful and fun. AND it was taken in a place called the ’sambadrome’! definately the coolest named building i’ve heard of so far today.

i’ve always had a strange desire to go to carnival (or, as they say in brazil - ‘carniVAL!’) but i’m constantly put off by images of being chased through swarms of dancing people adorned with feathers, by a large mute man with silver teeth (a la Moonraker..)

however, the reason for this (nearly two weeks after the Rio festivities) is because i just read that during the samba and whatnot, a gang managed to steal $50 million worth of paintings from a museum - some work from picasso, dali, matisse and monet no less - and then ‘fled with the paintings, melting into the crowds following the band‘. inspired. you couldn’t make that up. i can just picture them salsa-ing away with these painting under their arms.

it did leave me wondering (as art-theft crimes often do), what are they going to do with the paintings? colour me out-of-touch with the shadowy world of stolen art, but i’ve never understood what the point of stealing them is because why would anyone buy them if they cant display them(?).. blah. loco. in this case, it seems that they tried to sell one of the paintings on an auction site a week later (buyitnow price - $13million), but presumably no-one put in a bid for it.

as a side note, the reward for information about the stolen paintings is $5,000. that’s $5,000 - for paintings worth $50 million. hmm.. something not quite right there..

real life simpsons

Thu 09.03.06

might as well join the list of people who link to this.. the ‘real life simpsons intro‘ which is undeniably cool. very nicely done. intended as a short for sky, word is it’s gonna be a viral.. or should that be, it has already turned into a viral. and i’m contributing to the spread.

worth a peep.

(oh, and while trawling, saw this too.. real life simpsons house. very odd.)

the future is now

Thu 09.03.06

so apparently people use the internet more than they watch television. according to a recent report, “the average internet user now spends an average of 41 days online each year, the equivalent of 164 minutes a day, compared with 37 days each year or 148 minutes each day spent watching TV“.. 164 minutes a day?! my eyes would be grateful for something less than 500 minutes once in a while.

i wonder what counted as an ‘internet user’.. someone who uses the internet at least 2 and a half hours a day perhaps..

still, it’s a jump forward from the last survey which reckoned that internet/tv time was about equal. not to mention it’s a nice omen for the multicasting trials by the bbc and itv..

everything’s more fun on the interweb.

buffalo

..is my place of birth.

new wildlife series on bbc 1, started on sunday but is repeated on saturday for people who dozed. well worth watching. some of the shots are unreal.. really impressive stuff. love it.

check the bbc page for programme times and some cool flash video thing. apparently there’s a lava lake on the next one! :-) lava is cool. it’s official.
