sage francis x sarah coleman 2

write me a picture

a brief, but worthwhile follow up to my previous post about this ‘write off the world’ show…

the talented ms coleman now has lots of show-related goodies for sale on her website.. note to anyone wanting to get me a present for my birthday next week (or for christmas) - the ‘dead to this world’ cross-stitch would look dope in my hallway. in fact, all of the items are dope.. i may just pick up a couple of things for myself..

i’m pleased to say that i already own one of the double-sided notebooks (somewhat pictured above) and can thus personally attest to the quality. mine’s signed by sage.. it’d be a nice touch if the other side was signed by sarah, but 1 out of 2 aint bad.

in addition to the things to buy, you can also watch some nice little videos of the show.. for FREE! (by merely clicking on this link right here). some footage of the performance would’ve been nice, but i suppose that’ll serve me right for not having fought tooth and nail to go.
drat.

auditions
(from the ‘pussycat dolls’ audition series)

lauren greenfield takes very good photos.

i don’t think they’re great in the sense that they leave me thinking ‘wow’ or anything, but they certainly do strike a nerve or something in me at least. just photos of everyday things (from various walks of life), but they’re presented in a really nice way; intriguing, interesting but not intrusive. she’s got the documentary thing down to a tee.

the whole site is worth a look so go and peruse for 20 minutes or so.. > http://www.laurengreenfield.com.

i particularly like the ones in vegas; now that i know i’m going there for a few nights next summer, i’ve taken a whole new interest in the city. with that in mind, this photo is dope:
auditions
it cleverly features the two hotels we’re going to be staying at.. one of which (the luxor) is also featured in this series of 2pac/suge knight pics.. nice.

last skeptik: dusty crates radio

Thu 30.11.06

i love my radio

if you like you some hip hop like i like me some hip hop, then you’ll enjoy listening to dusty crates radio as much as i do.

and if you managed to read that first sentence without having to re-read it to make sense of it, then kudos to you.

really tho, dusty crates is the shiznit. it’s a weekly show presented by the one and only last skeptik (whos website is pure gold *cough*) and it genuinely is one of the most enjoyable radio shows i’ve managed to find online. selecting tracks from both sides of the pond, there’s really solid playlist every week as well as some very notable guests (the chain of command appearance was heavy); it’s a must to subscribe to.

good shit. go forth and get it in your pod.

frank miller’s 300

Mon 20.11.06

grr!

how insanely dope does this film look(?).. (go and view the trailer for ‘300′)

i saw some concept drawings for this quite a while ago and meant to post something about it then.. but forgot. so here it is.

it’s the next frank miller adaptation which will be coming out some time next year.. based on his ‘300′ series, it’s the story of the Battle of Thermopylae which in a nutshell, saw 300 spartans fight to the death against a vastly superior persian army.. some people reckon the persian’s numbered more than 120,000. granted, the spartans eventually lost, but they held the persian army for the best part of 3 days before being betrayed by one of their own who basically let the persians in round the back and brought an end to the battle. what a prick.

i remember reading about the Battle of Thermopylae when i was a wee nipper, and it struck me as a rather good yarn but i never really thought much else about it. reading up on it (at the heavenly wiki) just makes me think ‘wow’. the whole story’s class. really inspiring for those moments when you’re leading a small army against the might of an entire empire. something we can all relate to.

looking forward to it.

remnants of my fireworks display

as you can see from the above photo, our garden played host to the 4th annual ‘fireworks with matt’ night this weekend. that’s not the official name of the event, but it does however aptly sum up what took place across an hour and a half timespan on saturday night. super fun.

we’ve had a fireworks party every year that we’ve lived in bournemouth and truthfully - it’s a highlight in my social calendar. in a depart from sainsburys for the first time, this years display was kindly supported by tesco. buy one get one free on all ’selection’ boxes = multiple ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’. thankfully none of the ones we had were too loud, as that’s really the only thing that grates me about fireworks… that said - the house across the road more than made up for our quietness by re-staging a blow by blow account of operation shock and awe. frankly, i’m surprised that there weren’t major casualties - especially after one of their anti-aircraft fireworks seemed to go off about 2 foot in the air. but blah.. it all adds to the joy of bonfire night.

btw - for people not knowing what the whole november 5th thing is about, wiki the facts. essentially it’s a night where everyone in the country has fun with flames and bangs except for people with dogs / hospital workers / the extremely elderly / people who think they’re too cool for fireworks. i can understand why 3/4 of those people don’t like it, but the last group have no excuse. no-one’s too cool for fireworks. fireworks are too cool for you.

finally - witness my fireworks party in full swing. brilliant photography courtesy of my w800.

frederic chaubin / soviet oddness

Wed 01.11.06

last month pingmag (which is rapidly becoming one of my favourite sites) ran a nice interview with this guy frederic chaubin which discussed some photos he’s taken of bizarre soviet architecture. they’re very cool photos.. but i’ve not been able to really find out anything more about him or (more importantly), the locations. so consider this a request.. please leave a comment if you know where to find more of the same. til then, i’ll make do with what i’ve got.

(also, there’s a google satellite map of the above building… which is odd.)
