Jeremy Beadle

Genuinely a bit sad to hear about this earlier.. Jeremy Beadle provided the highlight to many a weekend when I was growing up. I used to love Beadles About and You’ve Been Framed (I was very young). (It’s a shame that the latter has been tarnished with Lisa ‘the fat one from Emmerdale’ Riley and Harry Hill but that’s largely irrelevant here.)

Really though, respect due to the Beadle..

If you don’t know who he was: Jeremy Beadle obituary on BBCi.

Squid

Terrifying.

From a collection of photos here. I have no idea what they’re about (anybody care to translate?) but some of them are fun.

Current BBC Three Branding - The Blobs

The ‘blob’ idents on BBC Three have always been a redeeming feature amongst a lot of the tripe that passes for ‘entertainment’ (see ‘Two Pints Of Lager…’ for reference). Their ‘short yet funny in a slightly odd but quite ‘cute’-ish way‘ – ness has been a staple of the channel for as long as I’ve had it on freeview.. and possibly since the start of the channel(?), so it’ll be a shame to see them go. But go they must, to make way for the new BBC Three branding which I actually quite like. It’s pink. I like that. It’s accompanied by a series of new idents which have yet to air but will hopefully be colourful and joyous! Like the sneak preview below..

New BBC Three Idents

If you’re unaccustomed to the ‘blobs’, or simply want a refresher – YouTube saves the day again.

skins series 2

Skins series 2

Looking forward to this starting as the first series turned out to be actually rather good. I like the fact that they make a lot of the whole myspace/facebook crowd with their various online things (myspace pages, extra content, ‘The Lost Weeks‘, cast blogs etc). Nice cross-platform type of stuff..

There’s a fairly dark trailer for the new series on youtube (specifically, here.. a stark contrast to the series 1 trailer) which is quite intriguing. Will Tony be alright after the accident? Will Sid save Cassie from herself? How many more drugs will Chris take? What’s wrong with Michelle’s nose? All these crucial questions and more, answered in February. Good stuff.

Boy on the River Nile, Egypt

Oh, and the reason my ‘new year‘ post was so late into 2008 was because I spent the first chunk of January in Egypt. Sharm-el-Shiekh in fact. The Ghazala Gardens to be precise. It was very nice.

I took a few photos which I’ve yet to sort through but they’ll pop on flickr shortly so if you’re remotely interested in photos of ancient sites (specifically the ones around Luxor) then have a look.

happy new year

Where does the time go? Really doesn’t seem like a year ago that I made my last ‘happy new year‘ post with vague promises of doing stuff, but here I am, a year on, and still haven’t really done a lot of stuff. :) Actually, to be fair, I’ve done quite a bit.. 2007 was a good year. I wont be doing one of those retrospective posts where I list my favourite albums (8 Diagrams & the Atmosphere EP’s) and favourite websites (get the glass) and all that so don’t fret. All I want to say is may 2008 be great for all you fine people reading this. I wont even mention any of the things I intend to do this year. I’ll just try to get on and do them – then I’ll mention them :) stay tuned!
