baby d – let me be your fantasy (1992)

This is, for me, very close to a perfect dance music video. In fact, it’s my number 3. A focus on the singer, the dancing, a few effects and just enough thought into the visuals to make it stand out and seem like it was worth making a video for. The symmetry of the candles and the path they create toward dancers and whatnot is like, soo spiritual.

The synchonised dance segments are also superb but not so choreographed that they seem contrived. And even Dee herself gets in on the act. Which is how it should be. And the shots of her with the sunglasses on just sum up nicely a part of that era of dance music for me. I dunno why. It’s just that look y’know(?)

in a nutshell…
Got any salmon?
High. Plenty of dancing. Visual appreciation of the breakdown (arms in the air). Even some bogling. The dancing at 3:10 is immense.

de l’Épée factor
Medium. The video goes with the track well, but the song title/content is still never directly mentioned.

Dworkin-ism
Medium. One of the dancers has distracting nipples but again, it’s not meant in a sexy way. It just is. Still, the dancers were probably selected for their looks, at least in part.

You’re not alone..
Medium-high. Black and white, close ups of singers face, a bit of art, other people doing synchronised dancing. Like I Need Your Loving and Alex Party.

How could it get any better?! Find out what’s at number 2.

Phenomenal list. The number one video has long been a favorite of mine. I wouldn’t change a single one. I especially like that you included Baby D.
Ya….Really they are really good videos..!
