stuff related to gender, also sex

Watching

Robert Webb talk about his new book How Not To Be A Boy – the full interview he did with C4 is here, but even this short clip brings the realness.

Reading

Things about toxic masculinity, about John Lewis removing ‘girls’ and ‘boys’ labels from kids clothes (and how much it upsets fuckwits like Piers Morgan), and about the myth that people have a ‘male’ or ‘female’ brain. I promise that all of these things were completely coincidental.

To be honest, I’m disappointed that shit like this still comes up but hey, knowing that my pink phone cover and pink clothing still attracts comments, I really shouldn’t be surprised.

That last link in particular is a good read;

We take for granted how often laymen and even researchers use science—and specifically neuroscience—to “verify” stereotypes about gender: That men are naturally more competitive, for instance, or that women are more in touch with their emotions and better skilled at communicating. Such notions aren’t just academic, but pervasive and potent, indirectly influencing the way we organize our households and organizations, not to mention the way we see our relationships, and even ourselves.

I don’t know if I’m reading more things along these lines because they’re more frequent and the world is coming to terms with what should be obvious, or because they just get more attention now because there are more whiny man-babies post Brexit and Trump, or because I notice them more as a parent of a girl and a boy.. ?? Who knows. But I look forward to the day where gender isn’t an issue. It’s only a matter of time. (Ha, yehrite. ROFL).

Listening to

On a different definition of sex; My Dad Wrote a Porno. I’ve been catching up on Book 2, which I’ve neglected for a long time now, but am ready to receive once again. I feel like nothing new could be said about it at this point, but if you’ve not ever listened, you really should. It’s great for sitting in traffic with.
